MORE INFORMATION ABOUT COOKIES
What is a cookie?
A cookie is an inoffensive text document that is stored on the browser directory when you visit almost any webpage. The cookie is used so that the webpage is capable of remembering your visit when you return to that page. Despite a lot of people not knowing it, cookies have been used since nearly 20 years ago, when the first World Wide Web browsers appeared.
What is a cookie NOT?
It is not a virus, not a Trojan, not a worm, not spam, not spyware, nor pop-up window openers.
What information does a cookie store?
Cookies don’t usually store sensitive information about you, such as credit card or bank details, photographs, your ID number, or personal information, etc. The stored data is technical, personal preferences, content customization, etc.
The web server does not associate it with you as a person but with your web browser. If you normally surf using Internet Explorer and then try to surf the same webpage with Firefox or Chrome, you will see that the webpage does not realise that you are the same person because in reality it is associating it with the browser and not the person.
What types of cookies exist?
Technical cookies: they are the most basic and they give, amongst other things, information on when a human or an automated programme is browsing, when an anonymous or a registered user is browsing, and basic tasks for the running of any dynamic webpage.
Analysis cookies: They collect information on the type of surfing that you are doing, the most used sections, consulted products, the time of use, language, etc.
Advertising cookies: They show advertising based on your browsing, your country of origin, language, etc.
What are first-party cookies and third-party cookies?
First-party cookies are those generated by the website that you are visiting, and third-party cookies are generated by external services or suppliers like Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc.
What happens if you deactivate a cookie?
In order to understand the effect that deactivating cookies can have, we give you a few examples:
Content cannot be shared from the website on Facebook, Twitter or any other social network.
The website is not able to adapt the content to your personal preferences, which is common with online stores.
You will not be able to access the private area of the website such as My Account, My Profile, or My Orders.
Online stores: it is impossible to buy online, purchases have to be telephonic or in person visiting the physical shop, if there is one.
The customisation of your geographic preferences such as time zone, currency or language is not possible.
The website will not be able to carry out web analytics regarding visitors and traffic, which will reduce the website’s competitiveness.
NYou will not be able to post on your blog, upload photos, post comments, rate or score content. The website will not know if you are a human, or an automated programme that sends spam.
It will not be possible to show segmented advertising which will reduce the advertising income of the web.
All the social networks use cookies, if you deactivate them you will not be able to use any social networks.
Can cookies be deleted?
Yes. Not only deleted but blocked as well, generally or specifically for a specific domain. To delete the cookies from a website you must go to the browser’s configuration settings and there you will be able to search for the cookie associated with the domain in question, and proceed with its deletion.
